I decided to combine the two and take a small break from Writing with Skill while Amber works on her research paper. George, for instance, has written about using it for collaborative work, and we've also run posts on using the tool in writing classes, both for work in general and for peer review in particular. The English curriculum scheduled a biography research paper for the 4th quarter of the year, and the Galen study recommends completing a research paper on Galen as the final project. Russel (2008) argues that fun writing tasks can help learners experiment with language in a “safe” way that is not subject to grading or evaluation. Students would like their research paper writing to be taught in classes that incorporate fun and exciting activities and they become uninterested and unresponsive if the classes are taught in the “traditional way” – purely esoteric lectures, no individual or group games, no internet use, no outside-the-classroom tasks. A good way to figure out what should go into a lab report is to look at a published article. This section will, drawing on Silva (1990), survey major developments during the last 50 years or so in second language writing with regard to theory, research and pedagogy. Articles in Science tend to be brief and fairly dense because it's one of the premiere journals, so the outlines are not as explicit as you'd find in other places; an Open Access Journal might provide better examples, especially if you're looking them up online.
